Hello,

My name is Emily Thompson and I am looking forward to being with your students this year in 5th grade!  As most of you already know, I had the opportunity to teach 3rd and 4th grade at Lake Marie these last two years, and have been with many of your students in the past already.

A little bit about me: I was born, raised, and continue to live in Whittier.  I love my city and am excited to be teaching here in the community.  I received my teaching credential from Biola University in 2013 and have been in South Whittier School District ever since. I have loved being in the district and especially at Lake Marie.

I am eager to learn with your students as we explore reading, writing, math, U.S. history, science, and STEM in 5th grade.  As 5th graders, your students have extra focus on science and PE this year.  They will be preparing for the 5th grade science and fitness tests at the end of the year, in addition to the CAASPP tests.  For now, PE will be Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Please make sure your students wear appropriate clothes and shoes on these days.

This year, the district has adopted a new curriculum for English Language Arts.  This curriculum aligns with the Common Core State Standards that we have already been integrating into our classrooms at Lake Marie.  I am excited about this curriculum because of the many resources it gives and the Think Central website that can be accessed at home at www-k6.thinkcentral.com

Please look through all the papers and read, sign, and return any necessary items.

I am looking forward to the year in 5th grade!
